Some recent discussions with senior facility managers at an IFMA networking event really hit home.

I never realized how much this would resonate with senior facility managers. The reality is that in many organizations, Facility Management staff are often isolated, without the support mechanism and the ability to learn about leading practices implemented by others.
As a result, they are often working hard to get results with the systems, training and org structure they have. They don’t know about better ways to do it or even the ability to sell changes that will improve results to their senior management.
Of course, we’ve all been there, and it’s hard to get above the day-to-day requirements and make changes. Making the effort and tapping into external expertise, however, will not only improve your current situation, it will make you more marketable along your career path.
